Asphaltum (Shilajit) - Unpurified

Shilajit figures as an important substance in Ayurveda in which it is traditionally described as life-enhancing and used for overall health.* It appears as an exudate on rocks of the trans-Himalayan mountains. In raw form, Shilajit is a bituminous-like substance largely composed of a compact mass of ancient humus and organic compounds thought to be exuded by fossilized plants. It has a bitter flavor and its aroma resembles stale cow's urine. The English name for Shilajit is Asphaltum (mineral pitch).

In Ayurveda, Shilajit is described as being of four mineral types: gold, silver, copper and iron. The last variety, Lauha Shilajit or the blackish-brown type, is the kind we offer to you and is traditionally considered the best in Ayurveda.

Shilajit is a substance of choice among ALL traditional medicine men in the Himalayas and is used across India and Tibet.
